Altocumulus translucidus (Ac tr)

Diese Altocumulus–Unterart beschreibt den dünnen Ac, bei dem die Sonne oder der Mond durch die Wolke selbst hindurch sichtbar sind (siehe zur Definition: Translucidus). Gewöhnlich tritt Ac tr als Unterart von Altocumulus stratiformis auf, am bekanntesten sind dabei die flach ausgebreiteten Wolkenfelder, die im Volksmund als grobe Schäfchenwolke bezeichnet werden.

Ein typischer Ac stratiformis translucidus sieht so aus:

This variety of Altocumulus describes the thin Ac in which the sun or moon is visible through the cloud itself (see “Translucidus” for the definition). Ac tr usually occurs as a variety of Altocumulus stratiformis. The best-known examples are the flat, layered cloud fields commonly referred to as 'sheep cloud' or 'fleecy cloud' (in German: Schäfchenwolke).

A typical Ac stratiformis translucidus looks like this:

Dichtere Formen von Ac str tr schwächen schon deutlich das Sonnen- oder Mondlicht. Solange jedoch die Stellung von Sonne und Mond noch durch die Wolke bzw. Wolkenschicht selbst hindurch erkennbar ist, handelt es sich um Ac translucidus:

Denser forms of Ac str significantly dim the sunlight or moonlight. However, as long as the position of sun or moon can be revealed through the cloud or cloud layer itself, it is classified as Ac translucidus:

Tritt Ac translucidus auf, so können zeitgleich auch andere Unterarten des Altocumulus beobachtet werden.

When Ac translucidus occurs, other varieties of Altocumulus may also be observed at the same time.

Altocumulus translucidus undulatus (Ac tr un)

Hier ein dünner wellenförmiger Ac tr (Ac stratiformis perlucidus translucidus undulatus) (siehe auch Altocumulus undulatus):

Altocumulus radiatus translucidus (Ac ra tr)

Altocumulus lacunosus translucidus (Ac la tr)

…und ein dünner Altocumulus mit Löchern (Ac stratiformis lacunosus perlucidus translucidus – Netzform), der im übrigen ganz überwiegend als Ac translucidus vorkommt (siehe hierzu auch Altocumulus lacunosus):

Altocumulus perlucidus translucidus (Ac pe tr)

Sehr häufig ist zeitgleich natürlich auch die Unterart Perlucidus, bei der zwischen den einzelnen Wolkenelementen der blaue Himmel bzw. darüberliegende Wolken zu sehen sind (Ac stratiformis perlucidus translucidus) (siehe auch Altocumulus perlucidus).

Of course, the variety Perlucidus is also very common at the same time; here, the blue sky or overlying clouds are visible between the individual cloud elements (Ac stratiformis perlucidus translucidus) (see also Altocumulus perlucidus).

Altocumulus duplicatus translucidus (Ac du tr)

Im Vergleich dazu ist die Unterart “Duplicatus” zeitgleich mit dem Auftreten von Ac translucidus nicht allzu oft zu sehen. Denn häufig sorgen die zwei- oder mehrfach übereinanderliegenden Ac-Schichten dafür, dass Sonne und Mond letzten Endes doch verdeckt werden. Hier ein seltener Blick auf einen dreifach geschichteten Ac duplicatus translucidus (siehe auch Altocumulus duplicatus):

In comparison, the variety Duplicatus is not seen very often with Ac translucidus at the same time. This is because the two or more layers of Ac stacked on top of one another often end up obscuring the position of sun or moon after all. Here is a rare view of a triple-layered Ac duplicatus translucidus (see also Altocumulus duplicatus):

Da die Unterart Ac translucidus in erster Linie die Lichtdurchlässigkeit des flächig ausgebreiteten Altocumulus beschreiben soll, wird diese Bezeichnung bei den anderen Ac-Arten nur in manchen Fällen angewandt.

Since the variety Ac translucidus is primarily intended to describe the light transmission of layered Altocumulus clouds, this designation is applied to the other Ac species only in certain cases.

Altocumulus translucidus – auch bei Ac lenticularis? /

Altocumulus translucidus—does this also apply to Ac lenticularis?

Bei Altocumulus lenticularis wird bisweilen der Zusatz “Translucidus” verwendet, und zwar dann, wenn es sich um dünne Formen des linsenförmigen Ac handelt, durch die Sonne und Mond sichtbar sind, so wie hier:

The term 'Translucidus' is sometimes used in connection with Altocumulus lenticularis, specifically when referring to thin forms of this cloud through which the position of sun and moon can be revealed, as shown here:

In den meisten Fällen treten isolierte Ac len als Ac lenticularis translucidus auf. In einigen Fällen sind die Wolken jedoch so dicht, dass man durchaus von Ac lenticularis opacus sprechen kann. Weil bei den isolierten Ac len abseits von Sonne und Mond die Dicke und damit die Lichtdurchlässigkeit solcher Wolken nicht zweifelsfrei bestimmt werden kann, wird in solchen Fällen der Zusatz “Translucidus” bzw. “Opacus” weggelassen.

In most cases, isolated Ac len appear as Ac lenticularis translucidus. In some cases, however, the clouds are so opaque that they can certainly be described as Ac lenticularis opacus. Because the thickness—and thus the light transmission—of such clouds cannot be determined with certainty when isolated Ac clouds occur away from the sun and moon, the terms 'Translucidus' or 'Opacus' are omitted in such cases.

Bei Altocumulus floccus bzw. Altocumulus castellanus wird die Bezeichnung “Translucidus” aufgrund des cumuliformen Charakters der Wolke sowie ihres oft isolierten Auftretens nicht verwendet – allerhöchstens dann, wenn Ac flo bzw. Ac cas in ausgedehnten Schichten vorkommen.

In the case of Altocumulus floccus and Altocumulus castellanus, the term 'Translucidus' is not used because of the cumulus-like nature of the cloud and its often isolated occurrence—at most, it is used when Ac flo or Ac cas occur in extensive layers.

Übergang vom dünnen Altocumulus zum dicken Altocumulus /

Transition from the thin Altocumulus to the opaque Altocumulus

Wenn mitunter am Himmel ein Übergang von Ac translucidus zu Ac opacus und umgekehrt zu beobachten ist, so kann dieser langsam stattfinden, mitunter aber auch recht abrupt. In solchen Fällen ist die Grenze zwischen Ac tr und Ac op ziemlich deutlich ausgeprägt, so wie hier:

When a transition from Ac translucidus to Ac opacus—and vice versa—is occasionally observed in the sky, it can occur slowly, but sometimes quite abruptly. In such cases, the boundary between Ac tr and Ac op is quite distinct, as shown here:

Mit dem Erscheinen der verschiedenen Formen von Ac translucidus ist in einigen Fällen eine Veränderung der lokalen Wetterverhältnisse zu erwarten.

With the appearance of the various forms of Ac translucidus, a change in local weather conditions can be expected in some cases.
